A secretarial question

For my dear, loyal readers:

Why are Areli and Elizabeth the only commenters (it's a close relative of slickeriness) whose comments, when automatically forwarded to my email Inbox, contain a reply-to address?

I want to be able to reply to each of you, and I know I rarely revisit comments I've left to see if the blogger has responded, so I guess others may be the same way. So then I would have to go to the commenter's profile, find their blog, and leave an unrelated comment on their blog. Seems awkward, no?

Is this problem solved by using HaloScan? Or another way to phrase it, is this why many folks use HaloScan? Or, why do some bloggers use HaloScan?

I want to be a good, responsive blogger, what to do, my readers, lurkers, fans?

Please leave a comment. I will respond.

I discovered that when you go into your blogger profile and add your email address in there, then it is automatically added to the message that goes to the inbox of whomever you are leaving a comment for. I have been trying to think of ways to advertise this fact just so that replying to comments would be easier, but I am not really sure of an effective way to let people know. Also, the address doesn't become public in you profile so you don't have to worry about spam, it just makes an email me link in your profile.
I like that I am easily able to reply to you by email, but sad that it's so difficult to reply to others. I will have to check out this haloscan and see what it does and if it will help.

I've seen a few people use Haloscan and it seems to work fine.

I tend to reply to people within my comments, which doesn't seem to be a common thing, but I find it's less random than replying on their blog.

I tend not to email people as I worry about it being intrusive, but I do like to keep current on their blogs.

Just a test if you can see mine, since I don't have an answer. Perhaps your provider routes free email addresses to a spam/junk folder? :)

Hmm I've never heard of HaloScan. I'll have to check it out. I find I almost always reply to those people whose email address shows up from my notification email. I'm less likely to respond if I have to go to my blog, find their comment, click on their profile, go to their blog, and then leave a comment there. It's too cumbersome.

Good question! I have no idea how to get any email notifications so I guess you're one step ahead of me...LOL! I hate to think people comment and I have no idea.

You're moving too huh? Out of state? Looks like we've found a place, now it's just getting all the paperwork done. Ugh!

I think people use Haloscan because it gives you more control over commenters. Like permanently blocking someone you would rather not hear from.

Then, for the main question, what areli said.

What all of the above said!

When I was using Blogger I used Haloscan because you had to have a Blogger account to comment. They've changed it since then I see.

So what happened in the bathroom?

Rain, you could never be intrusive, especially with an email :). At least not to me.

quikeye, no email address shown with your comment in my Inbox. :(

Kaitie Tee, I'm with you, it's cumbersome. Almost as cumbersome as trying to leave a post with a dog draped across my lap/top while chewing on a rawhide bone.

zib, you're in the unrepliable camp too. Ah, the bathroom. It's finally clean today. Finally.

Thanks for all your thoughts and replies ladies! I appreciate it!

Wendy, nothing stumps me more than how often it appears you live in Reston, VA. You are clever, this whole warm weather Cali girl stuff. I like it. Maybe I'll go Kentucky or Alabama - how does one display humidity with pin straight hair? Ask zib about the Dippity-Do.

HOLY CRAP! THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL YOU TWO APART VIA THE COMMENT FUNCTION HERE IN HELL, I MEAN JERRY & MAXY BLOGGER LAND!

Can't help you with your problem, though it looks as though there's some good ideas here already.

I just stopped by to say 'hi' and to congratulate you on your lovely medal?

Did you see the controversy over the medal design at Franklin's blog (the panopticon)? It's hilarious.

XOXOX, "Erin"

Maybe we are really both Elizabeth.

That would be nice. Then I would have a home in Sunny Southern CA, and a home in warm and welcoming Catania, plus my residence here in Wisconsin Winter Wonderland.

I get a lot of visits from Reston VA, too. Funny how the same cities and/or internet service providers come up over and over again. Some, I know who they are. Others, I haven't a clue.

TypePad has an option so that I can be notified by email if a comment is posted, and so far (in nearly a year of blogging) I've always been able to simply click "reply" as with any other email. A boon for the lazy, like me. I find it frustrating to have to go such a circuitous route with Blogger.

I hear that HaloScan keeps its comments for only a year, then consigns them to the deep. Something to keep in mind....
